From “Tantalizers: A Book of Original Logical Puzzles” (1970)
Envy, Hatred and Malice are the Fellows of St Jude’s who teach Astronomy, Biology and Chemistry. Each has written a perfectly scurrilous novel, the titles being “Xanadu”, “Youth” and “Zip”.
The biologist’s novel is outselling Envy’s. “Zip” is outselling the astronomer’s. “Xanadu” is outselling Hatred’s. And the astronomer’s is doing at least as well as the chemist’s.
Who teaches what and wrote which?
This puzzle is from the book Tantalizers (1970), but I have not found a corresponding Tantalizer puzzle originally published in New Scientist.
