Dear Headmaster,
You ask how my classics class did in exams. I fear I have drunk the waters of Lethe and cannot tell you. I recall that I set two papers out of 100 each and added the marks together to get a total.
The seven boys finished in alphabetical order and there were no ties on either paper.
Albus was fourth on each paper. Buggins totalled 140. Cassius was second in Latin. Dogweed scored 61 for Greek and Enderby 65 for Latin. Friday was fifth in Latin and scored 70 for Greek. Gatsby was sixth in Greek.
I remember that someone scored for Greek what Cassius scored for Latin. As I shall not be returning next term, I admit I am not wholly sorry to learn that the Governors will sack you, unless you produce the whole mark sheet, marks and all.
The gods appoint a testing time for all of us.
