Kamy in the Audience – Havana, Cuba

Kamy is the third and last model in the “in the audience” mini-series. This series is something I didn’t set out to do when making the pictures; it’s a convenient observation and grouping mechanism I’ve used on the blog. During the actual event in Cuba, I spent time with each model making photos in different parts of the mostly empty theater.

Another detail that is not obvious but described in the EXIF information when hovering over the picture is the comparably slow shutter speeds I used to make these pictures. I used strobes and supplemental lighting; however, I wanted to use a slow shutter speed to better capture the ambient light in this dark-ish facility, while keeping the ISO at reasonable levels.

I created this setup myself as I became more comfortable with the lighting throughout the model session. I like the pop I created with Kamy. I was at the widest 24mm and making sure most of her body, particularly the face, remained towards the center. The draped dress flowing out of frame is a technique I used the day before to emphasize the wide-angle framing.
