So have you heard? My beloved New York Knicks are in the NBA Finals. Many analysts say that the Knicks had it easy going through the weak Eastern Conference, and that they have no chance against the West. But the Knicks are on a historic run, having won TWELVE straight playoffs games, and having lost their two lone games by a total of 2 points.
Sure, Wemby may be a one-in-a-generation freakish alien phenom whom some consider to be the best player in the world, but the Knicks have two centers that match up well against him. And they proved it on Game 1 by beating the Spurs by 10 points on their home turf.
Will the Knicks win the chip this year? I don’t know. I sure hope so. I’m not making any predictions for fear that I may jinx them — and despite having won Game 1, they’re still considered the underdogs in this fight. And I like it that way.
All I know is that if they win the championship, all of New York will be annihilated. We haven’t won an NBA championship in 53 years. We have been through decades of pain and misery. But we stayed loyal. As Mike Breen said,
Even in the years when the Knicks were terrible, there would’ve been a game in April, and the team has been out of Playoff contention for two months, and if it’s a one-point game with two minutes to go, the Garden would’ve sounded like it’s Game 7 of the Finals.
We deserve this win. We need this win. Please, Brunson and Co., make it happen!
Now, on to the post!
Ahead of the commencement of the NBA Finals, Elmo posted that he hopes “both teams have fun.”
Unfortunately for Elmo, he’s from New York.
Well, New Yorkers (and Knicks fans) weren’t having it. They immediately flooded the replies, questioning his loyalty when the city’s first NBA Finals appearance in 27 years is on the line.
Some of the replies are plain brutal. They are so New York, wouldn’t you say? (Yes, I’m aware that we probably have the most hated fandom in the NBA.) All of them are hilarious. Enjoy!
