As a walker I come across these painted rocks (and objects) from time to time. I’m supposed to carry them home, look them up on the web and re-hide them. I guess I’ve found about ten of them over the years but I am not much of a game player or joiner…but maybe one day I’ll look these up and plant again as I am supposed to. The painted rocks left in random places are part of a global, viral movement called The Kindness Rocks Project.
The trend was started in 2015 by Megan Murphy on Cape Cod, who wrote inspirational messages on beach stones and left them on trails to spread joy.
The concept caught on rapidly. Here is how it works. People paint or write somewhat trite, uplifting quotes on small rocks and drop them somewhere.
Finders are encouraged to take a picture of the rock, share it in local social media groups, and then re-hide it elsewhere so its journey can continue.
Well, I’m a pretty busy guy but I’ll try to get to it. Group of painted rocks found along the trail. Collection Jim Linderman / Dull Tool Dim Bulb
