The record certainly benefits from its production by Ben Folds, one of the few credible piano-based rockers since Elton/Billy. And the angry, anthemic declaration of independence "About Me," particularly in its rollicking intro and some plentiful profanity, sounds more like a Folds song than most of Witt's work. But, hey, pretty great collaboration, a charismatic blend of slightly edgy indie rock with more traditional Carole King-inspired singer-songwriter pop. (The balance of the LP, and the records that followed, are much more squarely in the latter category, all perfectly enjoyable; coincidentally, her latest record, much more of a torch song affair, just dropped a few days ago!)
